La Bricole Painting Competition (Part 2) / 4th Marine Regiment

26 Jan

OK, so after working on a few other subjects over the past week, I returned to my Napoleonic French Marines for the La Bricole painting competition. I made some good progress on these yesterday, finishing their crossbelts, boots, cartridge boxes, the dirt and skin, plus the company Fanion. So all that is left to do is hair, finishing the eyes, headgear, metalwork, Pompom´s and highlighting the black and the first 22 minis will be done completing the first battalion. Here are two troopers meant to give you an idea of how far the unit is:

And since I am really pleased with the freehand work on the Fanion a picture of the Sergeant, too:

Burkhard, the mud is very nice. Are you using a weathering stick, or is it paint? Thanks, Simon

      Hi Simon,

It is just paint stipled on with an old brush. I shall do a short tutorial on monday.

I am sorry, but the tutorial will take a little longer. Treid to take some photos yesterday and while they looked good on the SLR´s display they were focussed on other parts of the mini. I have now run out of minis in appropriate stages of the painting process, but I hope to have it up by this weekend. Sorry!

They sure are a handy set. The only thing I notice now while assembling minis for the 3rd Battalion is… when using them for firing / loading poses they soon get boring.

Regarding the tutorial… I shall start on the 2nd batch of Marines this week, so there will be plenty of chances to get a proper set of photos, so the tutorial will not be forgotten! I promise!!!
